12 Union Park by Shatranj is a asian cuisine restaurant and bar located at Khar, Mumbai.

Spacious and beautifully done up, Shatranj has a indoor outdoor seating and a dimly lit ambiance.

It serves a variety of cuisine ranging from chinese, japanese, thai, malaysian and indonesian.

Their food menu includes soup, salads, appetizers, sushi, dimsums, mains and desserts.

So here is what I had :-

SOUP :-

ASPARAGUS & CRABMEAT –
Seafood broth soup with chopped asparagus, crab meat and eggs.
Nice, the soup had a mild seasoning of pepper and salt.

DIMSUMS :-

CHICKEN & ENOKI

CHEESY BROCCOLI

TRIPLE MUSHROOMS

SPINACH SEAFOOD

The dimsums were made using thin rice and potato starch.
The seafood dimsim in particular was rolled in a spinach leaf and topped with black bean sauce. They were served with brunt chilli, scallion and soya dip.
All the dimsums tasted delicious but I seriously loved the cheesy broccoli dimsum as the chopped chillies with cheese took it to another level.

SUSHI :-
I tried the maki rolls which are vinegared rice rolled with nori and i tried it in the following combinations –

SESAME SALMON
Cream cheese and salmon.

EBI PRAWNS
Prawns tempura, crumbs and spicy mayo.

CRACKLING SPINACH
Crispy spinach and chilli mayo.

CREAM CHEESE ASPARAGUS
Cream cheese, asparagus and cucumber.

The sushi were well made, they were served with wasabi, gari and soya sauce.

APPETIZERS :-

CRISPY LOTUS STEM –
Deep fried lotus stems tossed with sweet chilli sauce. Overly crispy as indian lotus stem was used in the preparation, seasoning was perfect !

HAKKA STYLE CHICKEN –
Batter fried chicken tossed with soya sauce, red chillies, scallion and loads of garlic.
Completely made to suit the indian palate, nice chilli and burnt garlic flavour.

MAINS :-

XO LOBSTER TAIL –
Lobster meat tossed with xo sauce.
XO is dried seafood based sauce made using dried scallops, shrimps, garlic and chillies.
It has a fantastic peculiar flavour that only a seafood lover can relish.
Here the lobster meat was batter fried and then tossed in xo, so the soft sweet natural texture of the seafood got diluted.

GOCHUJANG UDON –
Stir fried japanese wheat noodles with greens and korean chillies.
The japanese wheat noodles have a chewy wheaty texture, the seasoning of chillies were a bit over powering, a stir fry with simple soya and bakchoy would have worked beautifully.

DESSERTS :-

TAB TIM GROB –
Thai dessert made with water chestnuts, crushed ice and coconut cream.
Pretty straight forward, cooling and light for the summers !

Overall, I had a great time.
12 Union Park offers a great selection of asian cuisine that’s made in keeping in mind the indian palate.
Dimsums in particular were outstanding !!
Service is quick.
