Gulmurg is a iconic north indian cuisine restaurant located at Hotel Shalimar, Mumbai.

image

The fifty year old restaurant has a beautiful ambiance and a old world charm.

Though gulmurg is known for it’s authentic mughlai delicacies, it serves a fair bit of continental as well.

image

The elaborate food menu which is divided into two sections (Indian and continental) includes a variety of soup, salads, appetizers, mains and desserts.

So here is what I had –

MOCKTAIL :-

image

ORANGE MOJITO –
Orange juice muddled with mint leaves/basil and oranges.
Fresh basil flavour, refreshing !

SOUP :-

BADAM KA SHORBA –
Roasted almond and milk based soup with mild spices and finely chopped almonds.
The soup had a hint of natural almond sweetness with a subtle flavour of black pepper. Nice !!

image

MURG ELAICHI SHORBA –
Chicken broth soup with cream/shredded chicken and black pepper.
Mild kashmiri elaichi and cinnamon flavour made it soothing and aromatic.

APPETIZERS :-

NON VEGETARIAN PLATTER –

– MAHI HARAMASALA TIKKA
Basa chunks flavoured with green chillies/coriander and rampuri spices.

– SURKH MURG TIKKA
Chicken chunks flavoured with kashmiri chillies/star anise and ittar.

– KEBAB KALIMIRI
Chicken chunks flavoured with black pepper and cream.

– GALAWATI KABABS
Minced mutton kebabs, shallow fried, mildly spiced.

I liked all the kebabs but the chicken ones were my favorite, soft juicy and flavourful !

MAINS :-

MURG MAKHANI –
Shredded chicken tikka simmered in a tomato cream gravy.
Flavoured with fenugreek leaves, the gravy was thick and mildy spiced, it had a hint of sweetness too…. Fantastic !!

CHEESE GARLIC NAAN –
Naan loaded with amul cheese/butter and chopped garlic.
Tasted delicious with butter chicken !

PRAWNS TERKIYAKI –
Juicy prawns/onions and bell peppers, grilled on skewers.
Served with teriyaki sauce, grilled veggies and herb rice.
The japanese teriyaki sauce had a twist of thyme and rosemary.
It was a complete meal for one… enjoyed it !

DESSERTS :-

PHIRNI –
Crushed rice and milk phirni, garnished with saffron strands and chopped almonds.
Served in a earthen pot.
Insanely delicious, it had a blissful flavour of saffron !

Overall, Gulmurg is Fantastic !!
It gives you a feeling of nostalgia….
Their food is delicious, flavours are well balanced and meats are cooked to perfection.
Service is warm and courteous.
