POH Kitchen & Bar is a progressive asian cuisine restaurant located at Kamla Mills, Mumbai.

image

image

Progressive Oriental House has a chic elegant decor and a soothing ambiance.

POH is a experience to rediscover asian flavours.

image

It has a bar that offers handcrafted cocktails made using chinese herbs and spices.

image

It even has a japanese sushi section that serves customized sushis as per your preferences.

Their food menu is a interesting mix of salads, appetizers, mains and desserts that bring familiarity and surprise to it’s diners with it’s asian take on world cuisine.

POH uses local produce along with herbs, spices and sauces imported from south east asia to maintain an undertone of authenticity.

So here is what I had –

COCKTAILS :-

image

WOOD AND SMOKE –
Vodka based cocktail with litchi juice/pineapple/kaffir lime and basil.
Served with spiced pineapple.
Sweetness of litchi, sourness of pineapple and fresh flavour of basil, well balanced and extremely refreshing !!

SALADS :-

image

CRISPY BANANA BLOSSOM –
Banana flowers tossed in tamarind glaze with onions/coconut/peanuts/pickled chilli and herbs.
Sweet sour spicy flavours at play, crunch of peanuts and thinly sliced fresh coconut made it amazing !!

image

NOT A CAPRESE –
An asian take on a Italian caprese.
Tofu dressed in red pepper gel.
(made to mock a tomato)
Served on a bed of thick soya milk.
(made to mock buffalo mozzarella)
Garnished with white sesame sauce and textured olives.
Absolutely delicious, seemed familiar but yet so different !

SUSHI :-

image

SPICY SHRIMP TEMPURA ROLL –
Vinagered rice stuffed with prawns tempura and spicy mayo.
Served with gari/freshly grated wasabi and in house made dark soya sauce.
The freshly grated wasabi was fantastic, refreshingly pungent in it’s texture, made the sushi taste so delicious !!

APPETIZERS :-

image

YELLOW BEAN GLAZED PRAWNS –
Prawns marinated in yellow bean sauce, baked to perfection.
Served on a bed of smoked corn mash.
Garnished with citrus gel/tomato powder and dehydrated pineapple.
The prawn was juicy and succulent, it had a bold yellow bean flavour.
I even loved the smokey corn mash, it was so different !

image

SCALLOPS CARPACCIO –
Thinly sliced scallops flavoured with yuzu soya sauce and crispy garlic.
Tempered with green curry butter.
Garnished with micro greens and beetroot crisps.
A stellar dish, an italian raw meat appetizer was given a asian twist.
Loved the sweet and sour flavour !

image

CRAB CAKES –
Crab meat porched in garlic flavoured milk then coated with corn flakes crumbs, finally baked to perfection.
Served with jalapenos tartar sauce and yuzu soya dressed arugula salad.
The fresh crab meat flavour was intact, corn flakes gave the much needed crunch, citrucy salad added freshness…. Fantastic !!

image

FISH GYOZA –
Pan seared fish dumplings, served with onion mint sauce.
The dumplings had a thin outer shell, minced fish filling was flavourful, minty sweet onion sauce acted as a perfect accompaniment !

image

STEAMED CHICKEN TARTAR –
Steamed and baked cubes of finely minced chicken.
Served on a bed of herbed pineapple mash.
Garnished with bitter gourd.
The chicken cubes had a creamy melt in your mouth texture, tasted delicious with the sweet and sour pineapple mash. It was a extremely unique creation, japanese cooking techniques were used to create this dish.

MAINS :-

image

CHICKEN GREEN CURRY –
Chicken chunks simmered in a coconut milk based thai green curry.
The curry was cooked from scratch using fresh coconut and thai herbs.
Bird eye chillies/ganangal and holy basil flavour made the curry soothing !

image

KERELA FRIED RICE –
Red rice tossed with edmame beans/soya and garlic.
The thick short grained rice was absolutely delicious, tasted even better with the thai curry.

DESSERTS :-

image

POH’S SWEET MESS –
White chocolate shell filled with frozen yogurt/raspberry sorbet and honey comb made into a mess on the table !

image

CARAMEL & CHOCOLATE –
Chocolate tart layered with caramel.
Garnished with pecan nuts and sea salt.
Served with honey wasabi ice cream.

Both the desserts were absolutely delicious, but I specially loved the pungent wasabi flavoured ice cream, it went really well with the sweet and salty chocolate tart.

Overall, I had a great time !
POH is a true experience of south east asain flavours !
Though the restaurant focuses on the contemporary palate, their food does complete justice to it’s origin.

I’m blown away with it’s unique creations !!

For me, this place is a benchmark 😉

Go try indulge 🙂
