NRI is a modern Indian cuisine restaurant located at BKC, Mumbai.

Not Really Indian is the brainchild of twice Michelin Star Chef Atul Kochhar.

The restaurant is all about how Indian food has travelled abroad with it’s people and adapted to local flavours, cuisine and ingredients.

The restaurant offers regional indian delicacies that have an international influence.

So here is what I had –

COCKTAILS :-

MUMBAI MARTINI –
Gin based cocktail with curry leaves and ginger.
Extremely refreshing !!

SOUP :-

CURRY ME –
Malay-Indian coconut milk based soup with noodles/brown onions/sprouts and cherry tomatoes.
Loved the soup, specially the crunchy texture coming from the sprouts and the sweetness coming from the brown onions.

SALAD :-

BEETROOT FENNEL –
Smoked beetroot salad with grilled fennel and goat cheese in a beetroot vinaigrette dressing.
Fabulous, loved the crunchy garlic infused in the goat cheese and burnt smokey flavour coming from the fennel.

NRI CAPRESE –
Fresh buffalo mozzarella salad with lettuce/ aubergine/olive soil and naan crisps in a basil-coriander pesto dressing.
A Indian take on the Italian classic, loved the spicy eggplant twist.

APPETIZERS :-

PERI PERI CHICKEN WINGS –
Chicken winglet flavoured with african peri peri spices, grilled to perfection.
Get your hands dirty, the peri peri spice mix rubbed on the chicken is lip smaking !!

CALAMAR CROUSTILANT –
Crumb fried calamari rings, served with squid ink aioli.
A crunchy crispy delight !!

KALIMIRI PRAWNS –
Jumbo prawns flavoured with black, white and long pepper corns, finished in the tandoor.
Served with mint chutney.
The prawns were cooked to perfection, juicy n succulent, mildly spiced… super delicious !!

MAINS :-

CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA –
Spicy british curry where chicken tikka is  simmered in a tomato onion gravy.
Garnished with papadum and raw mango relish.
Rustic in it’s preparation, on the spicier side, raw mango chutney gave a nice tang to the dish. Nice !!

BUNNY CHOW –
Hollow bread stuffed with durban chicken curry.
Garnished with banana chips/papad and slaw.
The tomato based chicken curry was beautifully flavoured with curry leaves/cumin/peri peri and paprika.
It was a delight to have it with the masala soaked bun.

DESSERTS :-

CHEESECAKE –
Well made, crushed cookie base, cream cheese frosting…. Perfect !!

Overall, NRI is Fabulous !!
The restaurant is successful in keeping the essence of Indian culture heritage and flavour alive in what it serves !!
It’s warm service and relaxed ambiance adds to the splendid experience.
