Pravas is a Gujarati Kitchen & Bar located at Kamla Mills, Lower Parel.
The train bogie themed pure vegetarian restaurant has a beautiful vibrant ambiance.
The indoor-outdoor seating restaurant has a open kitchen, so one can see, interact and customize their favorite dishes.
The restaurant serves authentic home style Gujrati delicacies in appetizers, mains and desserts.
Pravas also offers a bit of maharashtrian and south indian favorites in its menu.
There is a separate jain menu as well.
The bar section will serve indian/imported sprits and cocktails, it’s yet to open !!
So here is what I had –
KESAR BEDAM –
Milk blended with kesar along with almonds, garnished with kesar strands.
Not thick, right texture and flavour.
Rice batter cooked in banana leaves, stuffed with cheese / corn and coriander.
Served with green chilli chutney and bhavnagri chillies.
Soft, steamed to perfection…Loved the gooey cheese filling.
RASSAWALA SAMOSA –
Crushed samosa, topped with spicy lentil and sev.
The samosa had a nice flavourful potato filling. spicy lentil topping was well thought out. Fabulous !!
METHI NA GOTA –
Methi and chickpea flour batter, deep fried to perfection.
Served with green and sweet chutney.
These chickpeas pakoras were fantastic, tasted delicious with the sweet chutney.
DAL VEGETABLE DHOKLA –
Lentil batter mixed with french beans/carrots/green chillies, steam cooked then tempered with oil and curry leaves.
A healthy twist of adding veggies to the dhoklas worked well !!
BHANGRA WITH LASANIYA BATEKA –
Cubes of potatoes cooked with garlic and tomatoes.
Served with bhungras.
The pan fried par boiled potatoes had a beautiful flavour of red chillies and garlic with a hint of sweetness.
Insanely delicious !!!
GATTA NU SHAAK –
Soft besan gattas simmered in a yogurt based gravy with lots of garlic/cumin and mustard seeds.
Served with satpadi roti.
Even the pickle masala layered paratha was fabulous.
FADA NI KHICHDI –
Lentil/bajra and broken wheat khichdi made with carrot/tomatoes/green peas and mild spices.
Served with dahi.
Simply put….The best khichdi I have had in recent times.
BADAM KA HALWA –
Almonds and mawa halwa, garnished with sliced almonds.
HOMEMADE ICE CREAM –
Kesar pista and meetha paan ice cream.
Both the desserts were fantastic….I specially liked the kesar pista ice cream as it was literally loaded with nuts.
Overall, Pravas is a welcome addition to the gujrati cuisine restaurants in SOBO.
The food is home style yet elevated.
Extremely delicious and comforting.
A must try for gujrati food lovers !!!
